The duo of Grammy-award-winning Nigerian singers Burna Boy and Tems debuted at the world’s most prestigious and glamorous fashion event, the Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Burna Boy graced the event donning a matching black and blue slightly checkered outfit featuring a generous cape-like extension of the same material flowing behind him. While Tems made a fashion statement with a custom Rober Wun dress. The 2023 Met Gala, titled “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”, also had celebrities such as Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Cardi B, Diddy, Dr Dre, Naomi Campbell, and South African comedian Trevor Noah in attendance.
Rema Announces London 02 Arena Show
Musician Rema has announced a massive concert scheduled for the 20,000-seater O2 Arena in London. The show will hold on Tuesday, November 14, in support of his debut studio album, Rave & Roses.
Rema recently reached a major career milestone in 2023, with Rave & Roses becoming the first African album in history to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify. Also, another track of his, “Calm Down”, currently sits at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the highest-peaking Nigerian song of all time.
Tiwa Savage to Perform at King Charles III’s Coronation
Nigerian singer and songwriter Tiwa Savage is among the artists billed to perform at the Coronation Concert of King Charles III. The concert is scheduled to take place on the grounds of Windsor Castle in front of a crowd of 20,000 members of the public and will be streamed on BBC television and radio stations. Other artists expected to perform at the concert include Paloma Faith; rock ‘n’ roll legend Steve Winwood; renowned pianist Lang Lang, and pop star Nicole Scherzinger.

Nollywood actress Nancy Isime has been conferred with an honorary doctorate in Arts and Philosophy by Prowess University Delaware, USA.
In addition to the degree, she was also awarded the Leadtime Africa Leadership Prize for Quality Service Delivery and Professionalism.
Buhari Reappoints Abike Dabiri as NIDCOM Chairman
President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to confirm the reappointment of Abike Dabiri-Erewa as the Chairman/Chief Executive of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission for a second term.
The request was contained in a letter sent to the Senate and read on the floor of the chamber by its President, Senator Ahmed Lawan. The President said the nomination was in accordance with the provision of Section 2 sub-section 2 of the NIDCOM Establishment Act 2017.

According to Forbes, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has become the highest-paid athlete in the world, with a move to Al-Nassr nearly doubling his salary. Ronaldo joined the Saudi Arabian club in January after leaving Manchester United last year. According to Forbes, Ronaldo has an estimated $75 million playing salary and has cashed in on a number of marketing opportunities. The platform estimates that the 38-year-old has earned $136 million from on-field and off-field revenue in the past year. Ronaldo tops the athlete-rich list for the first time since 2017 and sits ahead of fierce rival Lionel Messi in second.

In a statement from WiJAfrica, Ezeobi was recognised as the 10th most powerful woman in journalism for her strong influence within the security and defence community and various investigative works spanning over a decade, which have helped strengthen the security apparatus of the country. On the other hand, Nwabogor was recognised as the 16th most powerful woman in journalism for her high-profile interviews since taking over as Executive Editor of THISDAY Style a year ago, as well as her ability to reposition the magazine as a force to reckon with in the industry.
MO ABUDU DEBUTS MENTAL HEALTH-THEMED SHORT FILMS
Mo Abudu, the CEO of EbonyLife Media, has launched Mo Abudu Films and directed two short films that address mental health issues from a Nigerian perspective – titled ‘Iyawo Mi’ and “Her Perfect Life”.
Both films have been invited to screen at the 21st Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival (August 4-12), one of the most respected Black film festivals in the U.S., which is also an Oscar-qualifying festival, and will showcase at the Cannes Short Film Corner later this month.
SOUTH AFRICA UNVEILS NEWLY REDESIGNED CURRENCY
South Africa has unveiled new banknotes and coins, the country’s first major currency upgrade in over a decade.
The South African Reserve Bank, SARB, announced the changes, saying the move was meant to keep up with technology and prevent counterfeiting. The report says the new notes, which will enter into circulation, will retain the image of Nelson Mandela, the country’s first democratically elected president, who died in 2013.
