Having a well-organised wardrobe not only makes getting dressed a breeze but also helps in maximising space and prolonging the life of your clothes. To achieve a clutter-free and efficient closet, it is essential to follow a systematic approach that involves decluttering, strategic planning, and utilising practical organisational techniques. By following these 12 steps, you can transform your closet into a functional and stylish space that reflects your personal style and makes getting dressed a breeze.

- Every item in your closet has to fit you right now (not your ideal self in six months from now); they must be items you like (preferably adore) and be something you know how to wear/style.
- You need good-quality hangers. They not only preserve your clothing but also give your closet an upscale, personalised feel. Wooden or suede ones are my particular favourites. To conserve room if your wardrobe is small, consider these types of hangers.
- Sort your clothes into sections in your closet, such as dresses, skirts, shirts, and slacks.
- Arrange each section according to colour, starting with light to dark, and then according to style, ranging from dressy to casual and sleeveless to long sleeve.
- If you have the room, hang your everyday t-shirts and pants. Doing this is a lot better than folding them on top of each other; they will be more noticeable and easy to reach this way.
- Only pants, socks, pyjamas, loungewear, and sports gear should be kept in your drawers. You can use a drawer divider to keep them in neat sections.
- Get a storage box for the sentimental things you have in your closet that you don’t want to give away but would like to keep.
- If you are one who yo-yos in sizes, keep a small section of your closet for clothes that match your “ideal” weight but may not fit right now.
- Make sure your closet has adequate lighting to see all that is in it.
- Use clear garment bags for items you want to keep protected but are more appropriate for formal events.
- The same guidelines apply if you own a lot of jewellery, scarves, and belts; find appropriate organisers for them; and only keep the things you love and wear and make sure everything is visible.
- The same guidelines apply to your shoes. Ideally, they should all be in your closet on a rack or shelf.
