Highlights from ARISE Fashion Week and Jazz Festival 2023
From Herbie Hancock and FKJ’s electrifying performance to Naomi Campbell and Alpha Dia’s runway presence, there was something for everyone at this year’s event. In this article, we’ll look at some of the show’s highlights.
The Jazz Performances
The event featured incredible jazz performances from two of the biggest names in music – FKJ (French Kiwi Juice) and Herbie Hancock. These legendary musicians brought their signature sounds to the stage, captivating the audience with their stunning performances. FKJ’s soulful electronic beats and Herbie Hancock’s virtuosic keyboard skills were the perfect complements to the fashion show, creating a truly unforgettable experience for all in attendance.
International models on the runway
ARISE Fashion Week is known for its high-profile runway shows, and this year’s event did not disappoint. Iconic supermodel Naomi Campbell graced the runway, bringing her signature walk and undeniable presence to the event. Alpha Dia, a Senegalese model who has graced catwalks for brands like Fendi, Versace, Prada and Hugo Boss, also made his mark on the runway, showcasing his stylish and confident stride.
Tiffany Amber Introduces Menswear
Tiffany Amber, a leading Nigerian fashion brand owned by Folake Akindele, made a bold statement on the runway by introducing menswear to her collection for the first time. The brand’s signature free-flowing silhouettes were translated into stylish menswear pieces, adding a new dimension to their already impressive fashion offering.
Fresh Talents
This year’s event was particularly special, as it marked the debut of 13 new designers on the ARISE Fashion Week runway. The new designers brought a fresh perspective and innovative ideas to the runway. Their collections showcased a wide range of styles and themes, from bold, colourful prints to sleek, minimalist designs.
Another exciting aspect of this year’s ARISE Fashion Week was the introduction of over 40 new models who were also making their first appearance at the show. These fresh faces brought a new level of energy and excitement to the runway, with many of them receiving great attention from the fashion industry’s top talent scouts.
Inclusion and Diversity
One of the most notable highlights of this year’s ARISE Fashion Week was the increased representation of designers from the northern regions of Nigeria. This year’s event saw a significant increase in the number of designers from the north showcasing their unique styles and designs. This is a significant development, as it showcases the diversity of Nigerian Fashion and the talent that exists outside of the traditional fashion hubs in the south. The increased representation of northern designers at ARISE Fashion Week was not just a highlight of the event, but it was also a sign of the growing importance of the fashion industry in Northern Nigeria. The fashion industry in Nigeria is booming, and the North is poised to play a significant role in this growth. With its rich cultural heritage and talented designers, the North is a region to watch in the world of Fashion.
The biggest names in Nigerian Fashion
ARISE Fashion Week 2023 showcased the latest collections from some of the biggest names in Nigerian Fashion, including Tiffany Amber, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, Lisa Folawiyo, Ituen Basi and Nkwo. Their showcase was a reminder that African Fashion is relevant and poised to become a major player on the global stage.
