A forward-thinking matriarch, a steadfast champion of women’s rights, and an accomplished entrepreneur are some of the words that best describe Chief (Mrs.) Bintu Fatima Omosefe Tinubu, The Iyalode of Lagos.
Born on July 2nd, 1943, into the noble Osunbor family of Benin, Chief Tinubu’s early years were shaped by a nurturing environment that instilled in her a sense of purpose and a drive for excellence. She began her career at the Prime Minister’s Office in Lagos and later joined the Ministry of Establishment, where she showcased her exceptional administrative skills. However, it was her marriage to the late Alhaji Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu, a distinguished Commissioner of Police and Barrister from the renowned Tinubu Dynasty of Kakawa, Lagos, that would set her on a transformative path.
Shortly after their wedding, Chief Tinubu and her husband embarked on a four-year journey to the United Kingdom. Upon their return to Lagos, her indomitable spirit led her to accept a groundbreaking role as the inaugural female secretary at Guinness Nigeria PLC. This achievement marked a turning point in her career and set the stage for even greater accomplishments to come.
Chief Tinubu’s professional trajectory continued to ascend as she held positions at Nigeria Airways and the United States Information Services. Her entrepreneurial prowess and strategic acumen have propelled the company to great heights, making it a key player in the business landscape.
Her passion and dedication extend far beyond the boardroom. She has been a steadfast advocate for women’s rights, assuming the presidency of the Anwar-ul-Islam Movement of Nigeria’s Women’s League.

Her unwavering dedication to uplifting others has earned her the admiration and respect of both her peers and the beneficiaries of her philanthropic pursuits.
Chief Tinubu’s impact on society transcends her role in the Women’s League. She has held various influential positions, including presidencies of the Anwar-ul-Islam Women’s League and the Ikoyi Lions Club. Additionally, she has served as an ambassador, matron, and board member for numerous organisations and initiatives, leaving an indelible mark on each one. Her commitment to humanitarian causes has not gone unnoticed, with accolades such as the 2021 Inspirational Woman of the Year from the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) and the Women Empowerment Leader Award from the Lady Mechanic Initiative being just a few of the honours bestowed upon her.
