As the ninth season of Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija) enters its final week, we are reflecting on how the reality show has shaped the careers of its past contestants. Over the years, BBNaija has not just been a competition for the grand prize but a launchpad for individuals to establish themselves as household names in entertainment, business, and social activism. While many more fit into this category, we’ll be looking into five former housemates who turned their Big Brother Naija exposure into monumental success stories.
Ebuka Obi-Uchendu
One cannot talk about successful BBNaija housemates without mentioning Ebuka. Though he didn’t win during the first season of Big Brother Nigeria in 2006, Ebuka has become a face synonymous with the franchise. As the host of BBNaija since 2017, his career as a media personality skyrocketed after his time in the house. Ebuka is also a lawyer and brand ambassador, consistently celebrated for his sharp fashion sense. His ability to blend intelligence, charisma, and style has made him one of Nigeria’s top entertainment personalities.

Mercy Eke
Mercy, the first female winner of the BBNaija from the ‘Pepper Dem’ season, has successfully diversified her career. Not only is she a reality TV star and social media influencer, but she has also ventured into real estate, launching her own company, Lambo Homes. Mercy’s bold personality, alongside her entrepreneurial ventures, has kept her in the limelight, making her one of the most successful housemates in the show’s history.

Bisola Aiyeola
Bisola, a runner-up in the ‘See Gobe’ season, has proven that winning isn’t everything. Since her time on the show, she has made a name for herself as a talented actress, singer, and TV presenter. Bisola’s acting career flourished, earning her recognition, including a Trailblazer Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). She also launched a skincare line last year, ‘Brown Girls Magic’, which has been doing relatively well since its launch. Her tremendous success in the media and entertainment industry makes her one of BBNaija’s finest success stories.

Tobi Bakre
Tobi, a finalist in the ‘Double Wahala’ season, has had an impressive career trajectory post-BBNaija. Initially known for his good looks and calm personality, Tobi transitioned into acting and hosting, becoming a rising star in Nollywood. His role in the movie Brotherhood garnered critical acclaim and established him as a foreman for Nollywood action movies. While he continues to land high-profile acting gigs, Tobi is also a fitness enthusiast, which has further solidified his position as a well-rounded entertainer and public figure.

Erica Nlewedim
Despite her disqualification from the ‘Lockdown’ season, hardly anyone could resist Erica’s charm and grit, and these have further propelled her into stardom. An upcoming actress before entering the BBNaija House, Erica used the platform to expand her fanbase. She has since starred in several Nollywood films, including Devil in Agbada and Hire a Woman, and continues to build her acting portfolio. Erica is also a successful model and brand ambassador, cementing her status as one of the most bankable BBNaija alumni.
