With a passion for entrepreneurship, Otaniyen Jos Bazuaye is an excellent example of what it means to turn dreams into reality. Armed with a diploma in accounting from the esteemed University of Benin and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Igbinedion University Okada, his journey has always been destined to be one of intellect and ingenuity.
Yet, Otas JBS didn’t confine himself to the conventional path of a corporate career. Instead, he dared to merge his love for music with his entrepreneurial spirit, birthing a legacy of hit songs like “Amaka Y,” “Ozikpalor,” and “Hardworkah”. Beyond music, Otas JBS is the visionary behind 21:26, a premium lounge in the heart of JBS Estate, Benin City. However, his aspirations extend far beyond the confines of nightlife. As the CEO of Gruv Enuff Entertainment, he also organises events like business seminars and music concerts, each designed to inspire, educate, and elevate. His most popular event is the upcoming “A Corporate Affair by Gruv Enuff” (ACAGE) – a yearly networking gathering for the youths of Edo State. Currently in its 5th year, this year’s celebration comes with a difference with events slated for Lagos, Abuja, and, of course, its birthplace in Benin City.
What sparked the idea for your annual event, “A Corporate Affair by Gruv Enuff” (ACAGE)?
The genesis of “A Corporate Affair by Gruv Enuff” (ACAGE) stemmed from a profound desire to redefine the narrative surrounding the young people from Edo State. We seek to bring to the forefront their brilliance, resilience, and unwavering commitment to legitimate pursuits amidst the shadows cast by negative stereotypes of prostitution, fraud, and cultism. ACAGE was envisioned as a beacon of hope, creating a path for the new generation eager to showcase their hard work, creativity, and integrity to the world.
How’s it going so far, and how has ACAGE evolved since its inaugural event?
From its humble beginnings with approximately 120 attendees during its maiden voyage, ACAGE has blossomed into a vibrant celebration, drawing over 600 passionate individuals in its last iteration. Over the span of four remarkable years, our event has transcended from mere gatherings to become a pivotal platform for networking, collaboration, and empowerment amongst professionals and entrepreneurs across Edo State. Each year, ACAGE evolves, embodying the spirit of progress and community enrichment that lies at its core.
Why do you think networking is crucial for young people in Edo State?
Networking is the cornerstone of opportunities in today’s interconnected world. In a landscape where information reigns supreme, networking is the conduit through which knowledge flows, igniting innovation and progress. For the youth of Edo State, networking isn’t merely an option; it’s a vital lifeline that will help nourish ambitions, foster growth, and pave the way for a brighter tomorrow. Through forging meaningful connections, our young people can begin to unlock doors previously thought inaccessible, propelling themselves towards success and fulfilment.
Why have you decided to host ACAGE in cities outside of Edo State this year?
As we celebrate the momentous milestone of our 5th anniversary, we felt compelled to extend the reach of the ACAGE brand beyond the confines of Edo State. Young. People from Edo state are everywhere within the business and corporate ecosystem in Nigeria and beyond the shores of this country. By expanding our horizons to cities such as Lagos, Abuja, and hopefully outside Nigeria in the near future, we aim to foster a sense of inclusivity, inviting Edo-born youths from diverse corporate backgrounds to join us in our celebration of achievement and aspiration.
What impact do you foresee the expansion having on the ACAGE brand?
The expansion of ACAGE into new territories heralds a new era of possibility and collaboration. By venturing into cities beyond Edo State, we are poised to forge invaluable partnerships with individuals and brands alike, amplifying our reach and influence on a national scale. Additionally, through the increased exposure garnered by our expansion, the ACAGE Academy, established in 2022 to provide free training in event planning, catering, fashion, and tech to youths, stands to attract a broader audience that will hopefully partner with what we are doing at the academy.
Can you share some highlights of what to expect at the upcoming event in Lagos?
Prepare to be enthralled by the extravagance and sophistication of the ‘Acage Premium 100 Lagos’ event! As the evening unfolds, guests will be treated to a grand spectacle, beginning with a glamorous red carpet affair at 6 pm, where networking takes centre stage. Guests will have the opportunity to engage with esteemed guest speakers and participate in interactive talk sessions; musical and comedic performances will captivate audiences, culminating in an electrifying afterparty featuring the finest DJs, ensuring that the night is not only enriching but also brimming with excitement and joy.
