The journey from the previous album to this album has been a whirlwind. I recall sitting and staring over the ocean not too long ago, wondering if I would ever get here again after all I’ve been through… but with your love & support, we made it… “I’m not sure what comes after this, but I wanted to give you my heart, soul and energy today as I present you with ‘Timeless’ ‘

ALBUM REVIEW
The album begins on a subtle note with the first track titled “Over Dem”, which has a soft afro approach with interesting saxophone play for the right embellishment. The song talks about how he has kept his head up through the traumas and betrayals he has experienced in the past few years and reaffirms his stand and confidence in himself, his craft, and his beliefs. He throws jabs at his adversaries, maintaining that he remains a bigger person always, then using the phrase “David to every Goliath”, which states that their plotting does not faze him. He also pays tribute to his uncle and God for being with him through it all.
The next track “Feel”, is definitely a bop! It was clearly created for the purpose of moving the body. The instrumental sounds like the shekere and baseline did this track justice by establishing a feel-good vibe reflecting David’s energy.
The third song on the list, titled “In the Garden,” is a mid-tempo song that features new DMW signee, Morravey, who does fantastically in a warm vocal exchange of love and affection with Davido, giving a good romantic spin on things.
“God Father” is the fourth track and the one song that has David doing an excellent vocal job with a soft but stern approach as he basks in all the authority he has gathered over the years, sitting on his throne yet always giving glory to God.
Right after is the fifth track, “Unavailable”, which features the soft and beautiful voice of Musa Keys. It is a song that has Davido taking a step back from the presence of naysayers and rumour mongers and generally having them know they aren’t his priority.
The sixth track is titled “BOP”, a fascinating song with great potential for clubs and beach parties this summer. An impressive feature with “Dexter Daps” and background vocals that sounded to us like good ‘ol Chris Brown sweetness.
“E Pain Me” comes next as the seventh track off the tracklist and is a song based on betrayal from a loved one. The lyrics depict many broken promises, from a typical romance story gone wrong with just one person genuinely vested in the love affair.
The eighth track, “Away”, is yet another simple but feel-good song. Davido reminds his fans that he is the ‘Omo Baba Olowo’. He also sings about not having “time for wahala.”
The top focal track, “Champion Sound,” was released to rave reviews as the album’s lead single on 19 Nov 2021.
Overall, it is a great album, and we give kudos to Davido for dropping this project despite losing his son. It’s personal when we say we feel all the emotion, growth, grief, peace and wisdom that has come with his predicament. It has given birth to a more intense version of Davido, who appears to have reached a certain pinnacle of intention. We are genuinely excited to have him back on the radio waves, public and private playlists, on the streets and our screens.
