Over the past few weeks, some of our favourite movie producers and directors have been teasing us with mouth-watering BTS and stills of their upcoming movies and making us wait in earnest anticipation.
We’ve rounded up a few of them so you can join the anticipation train!
THE BLACK BOOK
Produced and directed by Editi Effiong, the movie stars the legendary RMD, Alex Usifo, Sam Dede, Taiwo Ajayi Lycett, Shaffy Bello, Ireti Doyle, and many more. The thriller follows the story of a man whose son is framed for kidnapping and his battle with the law and all those involved in a bid to clear his son’s name. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long for this, as the movie is set to premiere on Netflix on the 22nd of this month!
KANAANI
Set for release in Nigerian cinemas on the 15th of September, everything from its trailers to its stills has us in a chokehold of anticipation. The thriller is directed by Tola Olatunji and stars the likes of Gabriel Afolayan, Ivie Okujaye, Ayo Adey-Kosh, Alexandria Warfield, and many more.
IJOGBON
This coming-of-age film is about four teenagers whose lives take unexpected turns after they stumble upon a pouch of diamonds. The legendary Kunle Afolayan directs it, and we know to expect something gripping from him. A release date has yet to be announced, but we can expect it any time soon, seeing as the poster is already up on Netflix!
A TRIBE CALLED JUDAH
Another masterpiece from Funke Akindele is in the works, people! After her tremendous success with ‘Battle on Buka Street’ last December, she has started teasing us about another December project titled ‘A Tribe Called Judah’. We’re not sure what exactly it is about yet; all we know is that it is set for release in cinemas in December, and it stars Nse Ikpe Etim, Timini Egbuson, Jide Kene, Olumide Oworu, Funke Akindele herself, and many more. If she wants to make this a yearly thing every December, we absolutely do not object!
’77: THE FESTAC CONSPIRACY
Ramsey Nuoah and Rita Dominic return to the big screen in this Izu Ojukwu movie based on events surrounding the 1977 Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC), organised by UNESCO and the then Nigerian government. The film is a sequel to the 2016 historical thriller’ 76.’ An official release date hasn’t been set yet, but we have been teased with multiple stills from the movie that have aroused curiosity, and we can only hope it comes out soon!
TO KILL A MONKEY
Following her success with the King of Boys Saga, Kemi Adetiba is set to give us the thrill of a lifetime with this crime thriller series, ‘To Kill A Monkey’. Stills and BTS videos from this movie have also fueled our curiosity, and while it is still believed to be in the production stage, we await it eagerly! So far, we know it stars Bimbo Akintola, Stella Damasus, Chidi Mokeme, Bucci Franklin, Lillian Afegbai, Damilola Adegbite, and a host of others.
