Guinness World Records has announced Hilda Baci as the new record holder for the longest cooking by an individual. The GWR, in a statement on its website, said: “Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.” A tweet on their official Twitter page also reads: “After reviewing all the footage, we’re delighted to announce that Hilda Baci is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual).
Grammy Introduces ‘Best African Music Performance’ Category to 2024 Awards.
The Recording Academy, organisers of the Grammy Awards, has created a category for ‘Best African Music Performance.’ The category was among the three new ones announced by the academy. The other two newly created categories are ‘Best Pop Dance Recording’ and ‘Best Alternative Jazz Album.’ According to the statement, the new categories will receive nominations beginning with next year’s show.
“The addition of the Best African Music Performance category reflects how African acts such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Tems—along with the rise of the Afrobeats genre—have become global chart-topping stars and streaming juggernauts,” the statement reads.

Godswill Akpabio has been elected president of the 10th Senate.
Mr Akpabio polled 63 votes to defeat his lone challenger, Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, who secured 46 votes.
Also, the senator representing Kano North, Barau Jibrin, emerged as the deputy senate president. Mr Jibrin was elected unopposed.
Like the Senate President, Mr Jibrin was given the instruments of his office after taking the oaths of allegiance, membership of the Senate, and the office of the deputy Senate President.

Abbas, who polled 353 votes, emerged as Speaker after a roll call of members-elect, 359 out of 360 members that participated in the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly. While the immediate past spokesman of the House, Benjamin Kalu, emerged unopposed as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The Edo State Government has cut school days to three times a week to mitigate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies. Ozavize Salami, the Chairperson of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), confirmed this after a meeting between the state’s Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, and other government officials.
This comes after the state government announced that public and civil servants should work thrice weekly following the removal of subsidy.

ExxonMobil has appointed Adesua Dozie as the new vice chairperson for its Nigerian affiliates, Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPN) and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL).
Until her appointment, she was an Executive Director and General Counsel for MPN and EEPNL. Dozie joined MPN in November 2019 as General Counsel and was elevated to the position of Executive Director on December 30, 2019. The Central Bank of Nigeria has authorised commercial banks to trade foreign exchange at any rate freely. The authorization means that banks now have the power to sell forex at a market-determined rate.

She announced this on her Twitter page with the tweet, “120 hours done!I want to appreciate you all for your support—emotionally, financially, physically & spiritually. If not for you guys, I wouldn’t be able to achieve this.” However, Guinness World Records (GWR) has yet to acknowledge her attempt to break the world cooking record. Adeparusi started her cooking marathon on June 9 and has become a viral sensation ever since. Her cooking marathon also attracted different reactions from social media users. While some users commended her courage, others slammed her for allegedly planning to undermine Baci’s 93-hour record.
