Dangote Still Africa’s Richest Man for the 12th Consecutive Year
For the 12th year consecutively, Aliko Dangote, President of the pan-African Conglomerate, the Dangote Group, has emerged as the richest man in Africa, despite economic headwinds that affected the fortunes of half of the world’s reported billionaires.
Dangote, whose business flagship, Dangote Cement Plc, is the largest producer of cement in Africa, is the only Nigerian on the list of the 200 richest men in the world with an estimated net worth of $14.2 billion, up from last year’s $12.1 billion.
Kanu Nwankwo Named Enyimba Chairman
The Abia State government has confirmed former Arsenal striker Kanu Nwankwo as Enyimba of Aba’s new Chairman. Kanu replaces Felix Anyansi-Agwu, who led the club for 24 years.
He is expected to lead Enyimba to success in both the CAF Champions League and the 2023–24 season’s league and Federation Cup competitions, which his predecessor won on several occasions.
As Enyimba chairman, he will work with his former teammate, Finidi George, who is the club’s coach. Both players were part of Louis van Gaal’s team, which won the UEFA Champions League in 1995.
Prof Yemi Osinbajo Gets Global Appointment
Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been appointed Global Advisor to the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP). GEAPP is an alliance of philanthropy, local entrepreneurs, governments, and technology, policy, and financing partners.
Osinbajo, who announced his new appointment in a series of tweets, said his commitment has always been to drive economic growth and support developing nations.
The Headies Releases Award Nomination List
The Headies, Nigeria’s most prestigious music award show, released the much-anticipated nominations list for its 16th edition. The list features an array of local and international artists recognised for their contributions to the music scene in the past year. Notably, Damini Ogulu, a Grammy award-winner popularly known as Burna Boy, received the most nods on the list with 11 nominations. He battles for the Album of the Year with Davido, Rema, Asake, Omah Lay, and Victony. This year’s award will also recognise international artists who have made their mark in the Nigerian music industry.
Miss Netherlands 2023: Rikkie Valerie Kollé Becomes First Transgender Model to Win Title
Rikkie Kollé has been crowned Miss Netherlands, marking the first time a transgender woman has won the title. Kollé won this year’s Miss Universe Netherlands competition against nine other finalists. The organisation announced Kollé’s victory on their social media pages, where they shared a photo of her after current Miss Universe R’Bonney Gabriel crowned her. The image’s caption said the 22-year-old had shined throughout the competition and had made great progress.
President Bola Tinubu, Elected Head of ECOWAS
President Bola Tinubu has succeeded President Umaro Embalo of Guinea-Bissau as ECOWAS chair. His emergence was announced at the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority Of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS. The summit was the first engagement of the President within the African continent since he assumed office on May 29, 2023.
Burna Boy Makes History as First African To Sell Out US Stadium
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, has made history as the first African singer to sell out a stadium show in the United States of America. He recently sold out the 41,000-capacity Citi Field Stadium in NYC, USA. Performing at the event was Burna Boy’s sister, Nissi, who gave an opening rendition at the concert.
Meta’s Threads Hits 100m
The Threads app launched by Instagram as a rival to Twitter has seen more than 100 million users sign up in less than five days, smashing the record of artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT for the fastest-growing consumer app. The app, which is yet to launch in Europe, was introduced as a clear spin-off of Instagram, which offers a built-in audience of more than two billion users, thereby sparing the new platform the challenge of starting from scratch. Twitter is thought to have around 200 million regular users, but it has suffered repeated technical failures since Elon Musk bought the platform last year and sacked thousands of staff.

Organisers of the Big Brother Naija reality TV show have announced that the 8th edition of the show will premiere on Sunday, July 23, 2023. Tagged “All-Star Season,” the show’s winner will walk away with the grand prize pegged at ₦120 million Naira, among other consolidation prizes. According to the organisers, the housemates will battle for the grand prize in the next 70 days. Ebuka Obi Uchendu is returning as the host of the show. The show is set to end on Sunday, October 1.

NCAA Suspends Max Air Boeing 737
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended Max Air Boeing 737 ( parts A3 and D43) aircraft from operation over safety concerns.
The regulatory body disclosed this in a statement issued by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Sam Adurogboye.
“The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended with immediate effect the parts A3 and D43 in the Operations Specifications of the Boeing B737 Aircraft type in the fleet of Max Air Limited,” the statement said.
